[Durban] Game Day – 14 November

Once again, I’ll be hosting another game day in Durban.

Venue: Destiny Bookstore, Windermere Centre, Durban

Time: 10:30 am for 11:00 am

Price: Free!

I met some potential new RPG players at a Halloween party… on, um, Halloween. I promised them that I’d run a simple RPG session for them at the next game day. So, I’ll be running a short Pathfinder adventure for them (module, level etc. still to be determined). Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a second GM to run a second table, so, instead, PB will run a few Dominion games for those that don’t get a chance to RP. Unfortunately, the RPG table only has 3 spots left, so bookings are essential.

As always: No gaming experience required.

  1. I’ll be bringing down the usual variety packet of PMBurgers. 2 confirmed, 3 more possible.

  2. PS : What do you think of the changes to fighters in Pathfinder? There seems some promise, but still not sure whether it makes them anything more than glorified guard dogs at high level.

    • I haven’t really had much experience with fighters at high levels, but at mid-levels, they really make a solid contribution to the party, in both in-combat and non-combat situations. Previously, as soon as the casters got their 3rd level spells, the fighter became redundant – not so anymore.

  3. Not an RPG’er… but keen to try Dominion – is there still space?

    Comment by Derek — 9 November 2009 @ 8:02 pm

  4. @ Derek: A single game of Dominion is relatively short (15 – 20 minutes). I imagine that the players at the Dominion table would rotate throughout the day, allowing a number of different players a chance to play.

@ Everyone else: I have some bad news about the event. The venue has been double-booked on the 14th. A Yu-gi-oh tournament will be taking place and the store owner would rather have them there than us (because they tend to buy a lot more than us RPGers and boardgamers). This is completely understandable, I suppose. This is where we stand now:

    1. The venue is going to try and make space for us, but this will mean our numbers would be even more restricted. I will get a confirmation on Wednesday.

    2. If we get our own corner in the store, I will probably change the game played to something that can handle the largest number of players at one table (Arkham?). It’s not all bad though, as the Yu-gi-oh players would then get exposed to other games. Then I can corrupt them. Then they will never play YGO at the store.

    3. If the venue cannot accomodate us, we’ll have to move the event to another day or an alternate venue. Any suggestions? Sorry PMBurgers, time constraints won’t allow me to travel to your side this weekend (early morning and evening committments).

  5. Some good news – we have one table at the venue. So instead of running a PFRPG table and a Dominion table, I shall bring a few board games (and Dominion) that all play quickly. That we can have multiple games, try lots of different ones and rotate the players rather quickly.

    Hope y’all like the idea.

  6. Sounds like everything’s covered!

  7. If I bring one more person, will that be OK? Is there enough space at one table? Please email me if you need me to bring games as well.

  8. @ Derek onno need to bring games, we’ll have 2 which should be enough, Arkham handles 8 and Dominion 4, but with it’s shorter games we can rotate people in and out as needed. Also If there are enough people for both games I was thinking that us Dominion folks could go grab a both at the Wimpy, our cards are sleeved and the tables there are clean :)

  9. More people are welocme. As PB said, we can always go jack some coffee shop or Wimpy tables. The games we are currently bringing: Arkham (base only) if the turnout is smallish and people want a big board game; Betrayal at the House on the Hill or Last Night on Earth (haven’t decided between the two yet); and Dominion (base only). If you want to bring something, feel free.

  10. Thanks for hosting this! I enjoyed learning & playing Dominion – and hope there is a “next time” to try something else.

    • Thanks for stopping by. It was a pity that we didn’t get to play something together. But, there will, of course, be a next time. I hope to post the details of the next event tomorrow.
