[Zombie Tuesday] Descent of the Zombies

Filed under: board game, descent — Tags: , — avianfoo @ 1:05 pm

A new custom monster for Descent: Journeys in the Dark board game: a zombie.   Use miniatures from Zombies!!! or Last Night on Earth board games to make Descent even more scary.

With the new Disease ability: Disease tokens indicate that a hero has been stricken with a disease. The victim must roll a power die for each disease token at the start of their next turn. When losing fatigue, if a hero has no fatigue to lose, they lose a wound instead. When receiving healing, any disease tokens are discarded first before any wounds are healed.

I am in Despair

Today’s board game is another (second) expansion for Descent: Journeys in the Dark.  Why do I like Descent? When I feel like a dungeon romp, its there.  And it can be used for DnD 4th edition. The down side is that its not very portable, but that’s neither here nor there.  On to the expansion that adds monkeys, apes and crushing walls:

Since I have run through all my Arkham Horror expansions, I have decided that it is time to take a look at the expansions available for Descent: Journeys in the Dark.  The Well of Darkness expansion is what I would like to think of the trick, trap, kobold and heroes expansion.

But first: What is so alluring about Descent (the base game).  I have always liked the flavour of a good sword and sorcery game ever since the Baldur’s Gate was released and I like co-operative board games.  There is an Overlord trying to stab you in the back (and front and any other side the bastard can get to) but I still feel that this game is co-operative (mostly).  Another great thing about the base game is the sheer amount of stuff one gets in the box.  The expansion does the same…but on a slightly smaller scale. Homebrewing Descent Journeys in the Dark

In honour of the homebrew carnival, here is a little homebrewing I have been doing for the board game Descent Journeys in the Dark.  (Review can be found here)

After playing Descent JitD a bit, I realised that all layouts layouts are fixed per quest.  This is not such a problem since each quest takes forever to finish and more can be downloaded from the website. Even with the campaign expansion (review pending) the dungeon layouts are still fixed.  So why not make a random dungeon generator for Descent?
